SurfJar Privacy Policy
Last Updated 03/17/08
SurfJar, Inc. is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy applies to SurfJar.com and governs data collection and usage on SurfJar’s website, Toolbar and program services. This Privacy Policy is effective upon acceptance in registration for new members, and is effective as of March 17, 2008 for all SurfJar members.
An equitable “value exchange” is the foundation of the SurfJar service. We believe that our Members, Advertisers and Partners all benefit by giving something and getting something in return. By choosing to enroll in the SurfJar service you are agreeing to participate in the SurfJar “value exchange”.
We take your privacy seriously and want you to feel comfortable sharing information with SurfJar.
Collection of Information
SurfJar collects both personal and non-personal information using the methods listed below. Our primary purpose in collecting such information is to accurately record the SurfJar links you have clicked so your account correctly reflects your activity.
Information Collected at Registration
To benefit from the SurfJar service, you must register and become a SurfJar Member. SurfJar collects personal information when you register and when you use the SurfJar service. SurfJar may combine information about you that we have with information we obtain from business partners or companies. During registration, we require members to give us basic contact information (such as your first name, last name and e-mail address) and demographic information (such as your zip code, age and gender). The registration form information requests may change from time to time. In order to increase your point earning potential and to use advanced SurfJar features (such as creating CommunityJars or transferring points to PayPal) SurfJar will require additional demographic information. This will include your US Mailing address so that SurfJar can send you activation information via the US Postal mail. Once you register with SurfJar, you are not anonymous when using the SurfJar service.
We do not accept registrations from persons under the age of thirteen. The SurfJar service is available only to persons who are thirteen years of age and over. The site has been designed to block enrollment of any person once they indicate they are under the age of thirteen. If we later learn that a member is under the age of thirteen, we will terminate the account, delete the user's information and invalidate the members’s points. Inherent in the Program is the responsibility of parents and/or guardians to ensure that their children's privacy is protected. SurfJar, Inc. will not be liable for any content or advertisements viewed by minor children in violation of the terms of this agreement.
Information Collected though Participation in the SurfJar Program

We currently use first and third-party cookies and clear pixel GIFs (also referred to as "web beacons") to measure page views on both SurfJar.com and advertising partner web sites. These devices allow us to identify unique visitors to SurfJar's site, member visits to advertisers' sites, and act as a counter for activity for both SurfJar.com and its advertisers. These commonly used counters collect relevant information and are used to enhance the SurfJar service and accurately reflect activity in your SurfJar account.
First and Third-party cookies are also used to count unique page views and track marketing campaign activity and track conversion activity. The SurfJar Toolbar is the primary collection mechanism for SurfJar members. It collects data on known Search Engine sites, select social media/networking sites, and advertisers’ sites. This Toolbar collects the following information:

Note: The above information is transferred from the member’s SurfJar Toolbar to the SurfJar web servers using SSL encryption.
Information Collected Via Online Promotions and Surveys
From time to time we may provide you the opportunity to participate in promotions or surveys. If you choose to participate, we will request certain personally identifiable information. Participation in these surveys or promotions is completely voluntary and you have a choice as to whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and email address) and demographic information (such as gender and zip code).
We use this information to award points. We may also use the information gathered to enhance your SurfJar program experience.
We may use a third party service provider to conduct these promotions and surveys. That company is prohibited from using your personally identifiable information for any other purpose. We will not share the personally identifiable information you provide through a promotion or survey with any third party unless we give you prior notice and choice.
Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
SurfJar does not rent or sell your personal information to anyone without your express consent. When we do share data with our advertisers it is in aggregate form and is designed to ensure you are not identified personally.
SurfJar allows members to earn points by clicking on web links. Tracking these clicks is an integral part of the service. By signing up, you authorize SurfJar to capture the clicked links and update your SurfJar account. If you later decide you wish to cease participation in the SurfJar program, you may do so at any time on this page: http://www.surfjar.com/members/unsubscribe.php.
If you invite a third party to join SurfJar through the SurfJar Toolbar or website, we will disclose your email address, first name and last name to the invitee. Also, if you invite an existing SurfJar member to donate to a Jar, we will disclose your email address (or nickname), first name and last name to the invitee.
Any information contained on publicly available portions of the SurfJar website (e.g. CommunityJar information or other areas that are not password protected) may be indexed by third party search engines. As a result, this information may appear in search engine results. Any information you place on publicly available portions of the SurfJar website, including Personal Information, is accessible by any third party and is not subject to the SurfJar Privacy Policy.
As a SurfJar member you may choose to participate in a promotion or survey where you can earn points for participating. In these cases we may, with your permission, provide limited personal information to an advertiser to allow them to follow-up with you. By participating in these types of offers, you are authorizing us to share your relevant personal information with the advertiser responsible for the offer. However, before any personal information is provided to an advertiser for any such purpose, the advertiser will be contractually bound to observe the strict requirements of the SurfJar Privacy Policy.
Although we house our data in the United States, it is possible that some of our data processing may occur outside of the United States. While the data protection laws of these countries may vary, we will make every reasonable effort to protect your information based upon the express terms of this Privacy Policy. SurfJar Advertisers and 3rd Party Websites
The SurfJar website and Toolbar contain links to various other sites. Except as specifically set forth below, it is our policy not to provide your personally identifiable information to our advertisers unless you make the choice to share it with them. When you have agreed, we pass personally identifiable information via a secure interface to the advertisers.
We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, such as handling the processing and delivery of mailings, providing customer support, processing transactions, or performing statistical analysis of our services. They are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information and are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.

We occasionally send the information we gather about our members to trusted third-party data processors to organize, process and/or analyze the data on our behalf. Data Verification and Supplementation
Data verification involves the use of third-party data processing services to standardize and clean your provided enrollment information so that it is easily identified and accessed in our database. Data supplementation involves appending any publicly available information about you to your personal profile.
In order to provide you with the most rewarding experience, we might send your information to data processors so that they can clean your address and standardize to ensure it is most accurate and up-to-date. Next, we might seek out any information about you that is publicly available on the open market and overlay this data onto ours for comparison purposes. Information collected in this manner could include your spending habits and demographic information. All of this results in a program that is tailored to your personal interests and provides you with the most relevant point earning opportunities.
We use this information solely for the purpose of enhancing your experience with the SurfJar service. All such third-party data processors are contractually bound to observe the strict policy stated herein, so you can rest assured that the confidentiality of your personal information will be maintained.
Security
SurfJar has established company-wide security practices for your protection. These practices include, but are not limited to, firewall security, the use of appropriate encryption technology, and the use of multiple levels of password security to limit access to data on a "need-to-know" basis.
We may use contractors or vendors to help us provide some of the services at our site. If we disclose personal information for them to provide the services, it is with the requirement that the information is kept confidential and used only for those services. All contractors and employees are required to familiarize themselves with, and abide by, these safeguards.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may amend this policy from time to time.
